Michigan football will host the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2024 class, plus an NBA playoff update and more Michigan Wolverines news.

The momentum keeps building for Michigan football in the 2024 recruiting class as the Wolverines have started to trend with expert projections for a number of 2024 prospects.

Just in the past couple of days, four-star Jerod Smith has started trending with projections to the Michigan Wolverines. Another is Dominic Nichols, a four-star EDGE. EJ Holland of The Wolverine projected both to join Michigan football this week.

Michigan football is the crystal ball leader with a number of highly-ranked recruits, but the Wolverines are still looking to make headway in another recruitment and that’s the recruitment of offensive tackle Brandon Baker.

Baker is ranked 32nd overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings. Out of Mater Dei in California, he’s the No. 1 offensive tackle too at 6-foot-5, 285 pounds.

There was supposed to be an unofficial visit earlier this spring, but Baker wound up having to reschedule. Yet, according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider, Baker will be in Ann Arbor next week for an unofficial visit.

The goal for Michigan football is obviously to get one of Baker’s five official visits. Ohio State and Georgia are locked in. He’s also going back to Nebraska this weekend for the second time.

Hunter Dickinson will visit Kentucky

If fans of the Michigan Wolverines were hoping that Hunter Dickinson was going to return, it’s looking less likely by the day.

Dickinson is visiting Kansas this week and will then take a visit to Kentucky. His interest in the Wildcats could depend on what happens with Oscar Tshiewbe, who is considering the NBA draft.

Regardless, as I wrote on Thursday, it seems clear this is about NIL, just as much as it is about a chance to win and the Michigan Wolverines don’t have the NIL game to compete with Kansas and Kentucky right now, which is too bad for Juwan Howard, who deserves better.

  • Laila Phelia, a women’s basketball player for the Michigan Wolverines, was named one of the top 10 WNBA draft prospects on Thursday. She’s not eligible until the 2025 WNBA draft which makes that even more impressive, but Phelia is elite and that’s exciting for the future.
  • In the NBA playoffs, Jordan Poole, the former Michigan Wolverines standout, got the start for the Golden State Warriors after the suspension of Draymond Green and he helped Golden State knock off the Kings 114-97. Poole scored 18 points but struggled from the field, going 4-of-13 overall and 1-of-7 from 3-point range. Caris LeVert will represent Michigan on Friday night playing for the Cavs against the Knicks. The series is tied 1-1 and tip-off is set for 8:30 PM EST on ABC.
  • It’s rivalry weekend for the Michigan Wolverines on the baseball diamond as U-M will host Michigan State for a three-game set. The first pitch of game one goes out at 4 PM EST on Friday. The Michigan softball team will host a three-game series against No. 21 Northwestern this weekend. Game one starts at 6 PM EST.
