Five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott is planning an official visit to Michigan football, plus transfer updates and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

There were a couple of positive developments for Michigan football on the recruiting trail on Wednesday and one of them has to do with five-star D-lineman Justin Scott.

Scott is ranked 13th overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, and is out of Chicago.

Notre Dame appears to be the leader right now with a couple of crystal ball projections for Scott and there hasn’t been a ton of talk about Michigan football recently.

However, that changed on Wednesday as Zach Libby of The Wolverine reported that Scott is planning an official visit to Michigan football this summer.

That would be massive for the Michigan Wolverines, who did make the top seven for Scott when he released it. A bunch of other elite programs are in the mix including Georgia, yet an official visit at least means Michigan football still has a chance.

Michigan football was also projected to land a 2024 EDGE by EJ Holland also of The Wolverine. Dominic Nichols is the player and he’s a four-star recruit out of Maryland. Holland also hinted about a transfer portal defensive tackle to keep an eye on.

Michigan Wolverines transfer portal updates

We still haven’t gotten any word on Michigan basketball transfers. Hunter Dickinson is exploring his options and Olivier Nkamhoua is still waiting to see what happens.

It really seems like he’s going to join Michigan basketball but wants to see what Dickinson does first. He was second in terms of usage last season for Tennessee, which is another reason why the Michigan Wolverines could use him.

Caleb Love is a high-usage player and that’s Nkamhoua probably isn’t in love with the idea of playing alongside Dickinson too. The Michigan Wolverines are also one of four teams in the mix for Matthew Cleveland.

Michigan is expected to get a visit along with Missouri, North Carolina, and Miami according to Jamie Shaw on On3.com, so don’t give up hope for the former five-star recruit just yet.

In other Michigan Wolverines transfer news, the women’s basketball made another addition, landing the transfer of Elissa Brett from Bowling Green.

Brett is a 5-foot-10 guard that averaged 14.7 points and six rebounds per game last season for the Falcons as she was selected First-Team All-Mac. She was also selected to the MAC’s All-Defensive Team and is the second big-time addition in two days for the Michigan Wolverines.

Kim Barnes Arico also added guard Lauren Hansen from Missouri and combined last season, Hansen and Brett averaged 4.5 made 3-pointers per game. And when you talk about a backcourt that now includes Brett, Hansen, and rising star Lalia Phelia, there is plenty to like about the Michigan women’s basketball team heading into next season.

Michigan Wolverines fall on the diamond

A difficult stretch continues for the Michigan Wolverines on the baseball diamond as Michigan dropped a 10-7 decision to Toldeo on Wednesday night.

Things were looking great for the Wolverines in the third inning when Michigan football player Joey Velazquez blasted a grand-slam home run, giving U-M a 6-1 advantage.

Yet, Toldeo scored the next six runs to take the lead before Velazquez came through in the clutch with an RBI single to tie the game. However, the Rockets plated three more runs and Michigan wouldn’t score again in a tough non-conference loss for the 19-17 Michigan baseball team.

Jacob Denner got the loss for the Wolverines after coming on in relief. Velazquez managed two hits and five RBI. Mitch Voit also had two hits and drove in two runs thanks to a home run.
