We are still waiting for word on the possible commitment of Olivier Nkamhoua, plus Hunter Dickinson’s timeline and what it means for Michigan basketball.

The transfer portal news has been hot and heavy for Michigan basketball in the past few weeks, but the Wolverines seem to be in a bit of a holding pattern right now.

Michigan basketball is after former Tennessee power forward Olivier Nkamhoua, who is 6-foot-9 and ranked as the No. 1 player at his position in the transfer portal. He’s an international with pro aspirations.

There was a report from Zach Shaw of The Michigan Insider, over the weekend, that the top competition might be Nkamhoua playing professional basketball, which could mean the NBA draft or the overseas.

According to a new report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine, it also sounds like the decision is tied to where Hunter Dickinson ends up.

Hunter Dickinson, Nkamhoua decisions are connected

Some Michigan basketball fans were hoping that the addition of Nkamhoua might be enough to convince Dickinson to return, but from what Balas has reported, the transfer won’t come to Michigan if Dickinson is there because of the potential logjam of minutes.

To me, it’s totally understandable. If Dickinson is on the roster, Nkamhoua wouldn’t be the primary scorer in the post and his role overall would be diminished, at least compared to playing alongside Tarris Reed.

That could be why there hasn’t been a decision yet. Nkamhoua might be waiting to see what Dickinson is going to do. There have definitely been good vibes for the Wolverines, but adding Nkamhoua and getting Dickinson back isn’t a possibility.

I’m actually Ok with that. Dickinson is a great player but this recruitment is kind of becoming a circus. There are reports that he would be interested in Kentucky, yet the Wildcats don’t know if Oscar Tshiebwe is going to return or keep his name in the draft.

As it stands,  Dickinson visited Georgetown and Maryland over the weekend. He’s supposed to visit Kansas next week and in terms of the biggest NIL deal with a program that has a shot to win a national title, Kansas makes sense.

It would also allow Michigan to move on and potentially add Nkamhoua, which could wind up being the final addition for the Wolverines heading into the 2023-24 season.
