Is Michigan Basketball still in the driver’s seat for Olivier Nkamhoua?
We have been wondering if Michigan basketball is finally going to land Olivier Nkamhoua, but now West Virginia and others could get into the mix.
It seems more and more likely that Hunter Dickinson is going to decide between Kansas, Kentucky, or another program willing to shell out a big NIL deal.
However, that’s the way things work in the transfer portal. Michigan basketball has added some transfer portal commitments — Caleb Love, Tray Jackson, and Nimari Burnett.
But, there’s got to be a reason why Michigan basketball hasn’t announced any of its transfers yet, which is weird. Nebraska announced both of its transfers signing on the same day.
Chris Balas of The Wolverines keeps dropping hints that the roster is going to look different than it does right now. I don’t know what it means or who it means, but it sounds ominous and hopefully, the Wolverines are able to avoid more attrition, at least from the new additions.
Losing Love or Burnett would be particularly costly and Jackson is a guy, in the right role, that could have a really solid impact next season.
Hopefully, all of those moves work out but as we learned with Terrence Shannon a year ago, you can never be sure until Michigan basketball announces the move.
Will Michigan land Olivier Nkamhoua?
On the same front, the Wolverines might need to get worried about the landing spot of Tennessee transfer Olivier Nkamhoua. The 6-foot-9 power forward is ranked as the top player at his position according to On3 and there have been reasons for Michigan basketball to feel good.
Yet, West Virginia has entered the mix and the Mountaineers aren’t afraid to dish out NIL deals. Kerr Kriisa, the former Arizona point guard landed a big NIL deal to play in Morgantown, and you can bet they will offer something similar to Nkamhoua, who is one of the most underrated players in the transfer portal.
There is still some hope with former five-star Matthew Cleveland, who transferred from Florida State but other powers are involved and right now, nothing is clear as far as what’s going to happen next for Michigan basketball.
