In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, an in-state recruit is available again for Michigan football, the latest on Michigan basketball’s roster, and more.

One position that Michigan football hasn’t addressed yet in the 2024 recruiting class is cornerback.

The Michigan Wolverines have a number of high-ranking targets at the position which includes a couple of key Ohio targets such as Bryce West and Aaron Scott.

Scott has picked up a couple of crystal ball projections to Ohio State and West has started trending to the Buckeyes as well, picking up another crystal ball to Ohio State this week.

It’s disappointing for Michigan football, but elite players from Ohio are still a tough pull. Crystal balls aren’t a commitment but it might be time to push for another target.

As it happens, a cornerback with a Michigan football offer — Jamir Benjamin — is ranked as the 10th-best player in the state of Michigan for the 2024 class and is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback out of West Bloomfield.

Benjamin also just de-committed from Stanford. Michigan football is the leader right now according to the On3 prediction machine but we’ll see if the Wolverines make a push and try to get him on campus for a visit. He has visited since 2022.

Michigan Basketball transfer portal updates

One wing that seemed possible for the Michigan Wolverines was AJ Storr, formerly of St. John’s. U-M made contact but there wasn’t much there and on Wednesday, Storr committed to Wisconsin.

It’s a solid pickup for Wisconsin and speaking of wings that are likely to come off the board, Harrison Ingram just picked up a crystal ball for Kansas.

The Jayhawks are also expected to host Hunter Dickinson for a visit next week according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine. That’s in addition to visits this weekend to Georgetown and Maryland.

I wouldn’t mind Dickinson back, but I’m watching for a commitment from Olivier Nkamhoua, the former Tennessee forward, and if the Michigan basketball could land him, it would be a massive upgrade at the four.

Michigan basketball could be a very different team. But Nkamhoua, Nimari Burnett, and Tarris Reed are all really good defenders and if Caleb Love can be more efficient as a scorer, the Wolverines could really have something, especially if Dug McDaniel takes a leap.

Michigan also reportedly feels confident when it comes to the waiver of Jaelin Llewellyn, so it seems like a good bet he’ll be back — meaning if the Wolverines do add someone from the transfer portal, other roster movements will be needed to make room.

There will be big changes. Luke Hughes is already standing out in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils, but getting the top players in the country back would be awesome after a second straight Frozen Four disappointment.
