Michigan Wolverines news: A massive transfer for hoops, a huge commitment in football, and more
Michigan basketball added a game-changing talent on Friday, Michigan football added a big commitment, and more in the Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
It has been a tough offseason for Michigan basketball fans. Leading up to Friday, it had been pretty rough for the Michigan Wolverines as their top three scorers are all headed out the door.
That left Juwan Howard and Michigan basketball with a lot of work to do. Adding dynamic scorers in the transfer portal isn’t always easy. But Caleb Love entered the portal earlier this week and after battling it out with Missouri — for the St. Louis native — the Wolverines won his commitment in a massive bit of news on Friday.
Love announced his commitment to Michigan basketball shortly after another transfer did the same. Tray Jackson, a former Michigan native, who played for Seton Hall the past two seasons, will be a Michigan Wolverine in 2023-24.
Jackson isn’t one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal or anything like Love is, but he’s 6-foot-10, is a reliable 3-point shooter, and adds much-needed athleticism to the four. Here’s more analysis on both moves for Michigan basketball.
Michigan football adds four-star offensive tackle, moves up to No. 2
When we say that Michigan football landed a huge commitment on Friday, we aren’t being hyperbolic. Andrew Sprague, the offensive tackle that pledged to the Michigan Wolverines on Friday is 6-foot-8, 290 pounds out of Kansas City, Missouri.
The No. 9 offensive tackle prospect in the 2024 class is another big get for the Michigan football program, which has the No. 2 class right now according to the 247 sports composite rankings.
Sprague is another key piece and gives Michigan football a total of five recruits committed in the 2024 class that rank in the top 200 overall.
The Michigan Wolverines have 11 commitments total in the 2024 class and eight of them are ranked as four-star recruits.
Only Georgia’s recruiting class is ranked higher in 2024 right now than Michigan football and that’s how things should be going after a 25-3 record the past two seasons.
