Michigan Wolverines news: Commitment watch for Michigan football, Frozen Four heartbreak, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football should be landing a commitment on Friday, plus Frozen Four heartbreak and more.
For the second year in a row, the Michigan Wolverines fell two wins short of winning a national championship in college hockey.
After making their 27th appearance in the Frozen Four, the Michigan Wolverines suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Quinnipiac on Thursday night, ending their season and leaving them one win short of the national title game.
Quinnipiac opened the game with a goal, but Michigan hockey soon evened the score. Eventually, it was 2-2 heading to the third period but the Wolverines hit the crossbar a number of times, while Quinnipiac twice scored on goals that bounced off the back of Michigan goalie Erik Portillo.
U-M also allowed a goal in the closing minutes while playing with an empty net. It was still an incredible season for the Michigan Wolverines who won the Big Ten championship, but with a number of key players moving on to the NHL, it’s still bitterly disappointing.
Michigan Football poised for a commitment
The hockey season ended with a thud but Michigan football could give Wolverines fans a pick-me-up on Friday as a 2024 commitment is expected from elite offensive tackle Andrew Sprague.
Sprague is 6-foot-8, 290 pounds, and ranked 160th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings for the 2024 class. He’s also the ninth-best offensive tackle in the 2024 class.
Sprague was on campus last weekend for the Michigan football spring game and has been trending with crystal ball projections to the Wolverines. Earlier this week, he announced Friday as his decision date and it seems a sure bet that he will choose U-M.
Michigan football just landed five-star QB Jadyn Davis last week and this Friday, the Wolverines could get more good news. Sprague would be the 8th four-star commitment in 2024 for Michigan and the fifth prospect ranked in the top 200.
