Dickinson and Michigan Basketball got the last laugh against Wisconsin, as the All-Conference Center makes a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send the Wolverines into overtime yesterday. Michigan ultimately completed the comeback in overtime and got the much-needed win over Wisconsin 87 to 79.

It is uncertain when Michigan’s beef with Wisconsin started, but the two teams made headlines last year at the conclusion of the February 20, 2022, game. During the handshake lines, Juwan Howard, Michigan’s head coach, got into a heated argument with Greg Gard, Wisconsin’s head coach.

The altercation ultimately led to a scuffle where Juwan Howard was suspended for throwing a punch at Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft. Since then, there has been no love lost between these two programs.

Earlier this season, before the two teams met, Hunter Dickinson rekindled the Michigan-Wisconsin rivalry with his interesting use of words regarding the Badgers. On the RoundBall Podcast, Hunter Dickinson refers to Wisconsin as “scumbags”.

This obviously wasn’t accepted well with Wisconsin fans, but Dickinson seemed to not care as he walked into Madison for the first matchup on the season wearing a ski mask. Brad Galli, from WXYZ Detroit, reported that Dickinson wore the mask to “steal a win”.

A tough and embarrassing loss for Dickinson and the Wolverines then ensued with the Badgers winning 64 to 59.

Hunter Dickinson gets his redemption

However, there was still one more shot at redemption for Michigan and Dickinson. Yesterday, Michigan faced off against the Badgers in a must-win game for both teams. According to CBS Sports, as it stood before the game, Wisconsin was the last four in, and Michigan was the first four out.

A win for either team was going to go a long way, especially for Michigan, who is on the verge of breaking the streak of six consecutive tournament appearances.

The first half went great for the Wolverines despite a slow start, and they lead at halftime 35-27. However, things went sour quickly, and Michigan found itself down by 3 with 2.1 seconds left.

Michigan had the throw-in under Wisconsin’s basket, and the inbound play was not executed correctly. Running out of time, Terrance Williams throws up a desperate pass to Dickinson, who caught the contested ball. He had enough time to dribble once and throw up a desperation three.

The rest is history. Dickinson swished the 3-pointer as time expired and sent the game to overtime. The Badgers could not recover from Michigan’s emotion and energy, and Michigan wins it in overtime.
