Michigan Wolverines news: Key injury for Rutgers game, Jesse Minter interviews with Eagles and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football DC Jesse Minter interviews with the Eagles, a key injury for Rutgers, and more.
There are a couple of important news items regarding the Michigan Wolverines this morning and we’ll start with Michigan basketball, which travels to Rutgers on Thursday.
It’s a critical matchup for the Wolverines who are 15-12 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten. Michigan basketball was projected as the ninth team out in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology for ESPN, which means there is work to do.
Winning on the road against Rutgers, which would qualify as a fourth Quad-1 victory for Michigan basketball would be huge.
Yet, both Rutgers and the Michigan Wolverines could be without key players. Rutgers head Steve Pikiell announced that Caleb McConnell, a starting wing and one of the better defenders in the Big Ten, will likely miss the game.
Michigan, on the other hand, has a couple of players that are questionable. Terrance Williams has missed the last two games with an injury and there hasn’t been an update on his status. Jett Howard could also miss the game for the Michigan Wolverines.
Howard sprained his ankle in the win over Michigan State and missed the closing minutes. It’s a quick turnaround and there is another game Sunday, so we’ll see. The Wolverines could use all hands on deck though for what’s a must-win game.
Michigan football could need a new defensive coordinator
Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter interviewed with the Eagles for their opening. He wasn’t the only coach to do so but it’s not something U-M fans wanted to hear.
When Chris Partridge was announced as part of the staff last week, it seemed finalized. You can’t blame Minter for taking the interview. Maybe the NFL is where he wants to be, he did coach for the Ravens before taking the job at Vanderbilt and eventually, Michigan football.
I’m not overly concerned either way. My guess is that he comes back and if not, Steve Clinkscale would be perfect for the job with Partridge as the co-DC.
