Michigan Wolverines news: Former Michigan football players in Super Bowl, ugly day for hoops and more
Michigan football sent a few former players to the Super Bowl on Sunday, a rough day for hoops, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
Michigan football fans have taken great pride in recent years in calling the Wolverines “EDGE U” or something to that effect and on Sunday, that sort of came true again.
Multiple edge rushers that used to play for Michigan football advanced to the Super Bowl on Sunday as Brandon Graham is heading back with the Eagles, following their 31-7 win over the 49ers. He will be joined by a slew of former Michigan Wolverines on the Kansas City Chiefs as Frank Clark, Mike Danna, and Chad Henne will all be going to Super Bowl 58 following a win over the Bengals on Sunday, 23-20.
It’s crazy that Chade Henne and Brandon Graham were playing for Michigan football over 15 years ago and are still heading to the Super Bowl. Clark and Graham have made particular impacts with their pressure off the edge this postseason — each has notched sacks. Henne also helped lead a 98-yard drive in the divisional playoff for KC when Patrick Mahomes was hurt.
Either way, a former Michigan football player will hoist the Lombardi Trophy in two weeks and that’s always good to see.
Really bad loss for the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball
Things went from bad to worse for the Michigan men’s basketball team on Sunday as the Wolverines were embarrassed at Penn State by a score of 83-61. The Nittany Lions connected on 13 triples and Michigan, outside of Jett Howard, made one.
The defense was atrocious and Hunter Dickinson seemed disinterested. It was a rock-bottom type of performance. The loss to Central Michigan was bad. This was worse.
Michigan’s season is on the line and guys can’t even seem to hustle on defense. Juwan Howard needs to find some answers soon because this is getting hard to defend.
Michigan Wolverines wrestling, women’s basketball roll
Sunday wasn’t all bad for the Michigan Wolverines. The wrestling team dominated Maryland by a score of 44-5. Mason Parris earned a tech fall and improved his record to 21-0 on the season. The third-ranked Wolverines are 9-2 in dual competition.
The Michigan women’s basketball team got back in the win column with a 77-41 trouncing of Minnesota. You can catch more of the recap here. Another headline to emerge from the game is Leigha Brown scoring her 1,000th point. U-M is also 17-4 overall and 7-4 in the Big Ten.
As of now, the Michigan women’s basketball team has no worries about making the NCAA tournament. They have also made two straight Sweet 16s.
