The Michigan women’s basketball team dominated on Sunday and so did the wrestling team in a positive showing for the Wolverines.

It has been a tough week for the Michigan women’s baskeball team with losses against Indiana and Maryland this week.

The Wolverines dropped back in the Big Ten race with both of those losses, but on Sunday, the Michigan women’s basketball team was on the road against Minnesota and dominated the Golden Gophers by a score of 77-41.

Things were somewhat close during the first half but Michigan grabbed an early lead with a 19-11 advantage after the first quarter and a 34-23 lead at the half.

Michigan pulled away in the third quarter with a 27-7 run. Lalia Phelia scored 22 points in the win, while Leigha Brown added 20 points, which helped her hit 1,000 points.

Greta Kampschroeder also contributed with eight points and knocked down two 3-pointers in a win that improved U-M to 17-4 overall as well as 7-4 in the Big Ten.

The Wolverines will be back at home after consecutive road games on Thursday against Illinois before aiming for a season sweep of Michigan State next Sunday in East Lansing.

Michigan wrestling bounces back in a big way

The Michigan wrestling team took on Ohio State on Friday and dropped a dual to the Buckeyes by a score of 23-15. Mason Parris did win his match and notched his 11th pin of the season along the way but it was Michigan’s second dual loss of the season all the same.

On Sunday, Michigan was back on the mat at home against Maryland and the Wolverines got back in the win column thanks to a dominant showing and a 44-5 victory.

The Wolverines got the benefit of two forfeits but managed a total of seven bonus-point wins, including two wins by fall (six points). Parris, who is the No. 1 heavyweight in NCAA wrestling, didn’t get a win, but did score a technical fall with an 18-0 win over Jaron Smith.

It was the 15th bonus point win of the season for Parris who is now 21-0. He’s got 11 pins and Michigan wrestling, which was third this week, is likely to drop in the polls after losing to sixth-ranked Ohio State but Parris seems to have a firm grip on the No. 1 spot.
