The transfer portal is open for business and Michigan football isn’t going to be immune from some departure. Here are some thoughts on the latest rumors.

No program is going to be immune to transfer portal departures and Michigan football isn’t going to be either.

Cade McNamara has already left in the transfer portal and while that wasn’t a surprise, I’m sure there will be a name or two that will leave that Michigan football fans didn’t expect.

While no one has reported any Michigan football players in the transfer portal yet, there have been rampant rumors on social media of some players leaving.

The Rivals Michigan site has said there will be two transfers from the Michigan football program that they know about and others have said it is going to be an important player.

(UPDATE: Erick All has entered the transfer portal)

Thinking about potential Michigan football transfers

We’ll just have to wait and see but with the way Michigan football’s depth chart is stacked at certain positions, it’s just part of the game.

The name that comes to mind and has been rumored about is Erick All and honestly, it makes sense. All isn’t playing right now due to an injury and has been out for most of the season.

All decided to return to Michigan football last offseason despite interest in the NFL and a good chance he would have been a mid-round draft pick.

There was some thought that he could be a Day Two pick in the 2023 NFL draft with a good season but unfortunately, it didn’t happen because of his injury.

However, it would make sense if All followed Cade McNamara to Iowa. For one, he would be the No. 1 target there and that’s not going to be the case at Michigan. Heck, I don’t even see how he would be the No. 1 option at tight end with the way Colston Loveland has emerged.

Loveland is not only an incredible pass-catcher but his blocking ability has impressed me too and I’m convinced he’s going to be a first-round pick. He’s also going to be one of the best tight ends in college football next season and the opportunities for others will be limited.

A.J. Henning is another guy I could see leaving. I hope he stays and I don’t get why he hasn’t gotten more opportunities in the slot, but he’s a Midwestern kid, a punt/kickoff returner and he could be a really versatile weapon at Iowa or anywhere else.

I have no inside information and am just speculating. These guys would just make sense because they do deserve a bigger role than Michigan might be able to offer. So it would make sense.

I’m sure the information will come out soon, but there is no reason to panic — it’s just portal season and remember the Wolverines can add guys too.
