Cade McNamara has entered the transfer portal and will not finish his career with the Michigan football team.

Well, I can’t say that it was unexpected, but it is now official: Former Michigan football QB Cade McNamara has just entered the transfer portal.

With JJ McCarthy now being the starter for Michigan football, it only made sense for Cade McNamara to pursue other opportunities.

Although Cade has been pretty quiet since his injury earlier this year, we do know that he is recovering from his leg injury after successful surgery.

Just think what could’ve been in that 2020 COVID season had Cade McNamara not entered the game against Rutgers in Piscataway down 17 points?

The success we are seeing at this very moment for Michigan football started on that day in Piscataway two years ago, in a 3OT victory for Michigan football.

Who knew that a win over Rutgers in triple overtime would get the ball rolling for the almost unprecedented success that we are seeing right now in the present with Michigan football?

Cade McNamara will be remembered by Michigan football fans forever

Cade made a difference at Michigan football forever. He and a huge portion of the 2018 and the 2019 (Cade’s class) classes have been the catalysts for this complete 180 at Michigan.

Just like JJ helped get Donovan Edwards and some other guys to commit to Michigan in the class of 2021, Cade did the same thing for Michigan.

As a matter of fact, Cade was a huge reason why Mike Sainristil is a Michigan Wolverine today, so you have Cade to thank for that. Mike even said so himself:

No, Cade didn’t have the biggest arm in the world or wasn’t the most mobile QB ever, and didn’t put up gaudy numbers like a CJ Stroud or Bryce Young, but the guy was a winner, through and through.

He beat Ohio State (Michigan’s first win against them in a decade). He won the Big Ten Championship. He led Michigan football to its first College Football Playoff.

He helped usher in a new era of Michigan football, and for that, we should all be forever grateful.

Cade McNamara has already graduated, has his University of Michigan degree, and would be a starter on over 80-90% of FBS college football programs.

It’ll be interesting to see where he goes next, and I’ll keep an eye on him to see what his next move is.

He leaves Michigan with two years of eligibility remaining (redshirt in freshman year, and COVID year), a Michigan degree, a 63.1% completion percentage, 3,181 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish Cade the very best where ever his journey takes him next. I know he will do well, because he is a winner, and any program could use a Cade McNamara.

Thank you for everything Cade!!!
