Michigan Football: Breaking down 4-star commitment from Ohio
Michigan football is on fire on the recruiting trail and on Sunday, the Wolverines continued their run of Ohio commitments by landing Luke Hamilton.
Over the summer, there was a time when Michigan football fans were asking when the winning was going to pay off on the recruiting trail?
It took a little longer than expected but after dominating Ohio State and winning in Columbus for the first time since the year 2000, Michigan football landed another commitment from the Buckeye State as four-star Luke Hamilton pledged to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
It was also the third recruit from the state of Ohio to announce his commitment to the Wolverines in as many days. Cameron Calhoun was actually on a visit to Ohio State and was in attendance for The Game and committed to Michigan football right after.
The Wolverines hosted him for a visit last weekend and the top-500 cornerback in the 2023 class, which was also being pursued heavily by Kentucky and was once committed to Cincinnati, saw enough on Saturday to know he wanted to join an elite college football program in Ann Arbor.
On Sunday, Hamilton did too. A number of recruiting experts projected Hamilton to the Wolverines recently but the way Michigan dominated The Game obviously made a difference.
Breaking down another commitment for Michigan football
Hamilton could be a tackle or a guard but he’s listed as a tackle by 247 sports. He’s 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, and is ranked No. 209 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings for the 2024 class. He’s also ranked as the 11th-best offensive tackle.
Ohio State hadn’t offered the Avon, Ohio prospect yet, but Penn State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers all did, and Ohio State was in contact.
Either way, it’s a good get for Michigan football. The Wolverines have proven they can develop offensive line talent and that’s been evident this season.
Michigan football does have the best offensive line in college football but most of the starters have missed time and games this season due to injury.
Jeff Persi, Giovanni El-Hadi, and Karsen Barnhart are just three names that come to mind as guys that didn’t start but have played extremely well.
So offensive line recruits are going to be in good hands and when Hamilton talked to Steve Wilftong about his commitment, he said compared Michigan to Alabama and that’s something that more and more recruits are going to start thinking.
We all know what it means for Michigan to recruit well in the state of Ohio and after three commitments in three days, the Wolverines’ efforts are trending up.
