Michigan football is looking ahead to Rutgers after beating Michigan State and here is a look at the odds, as well as a prediction against the spread.

It’s been a wild few days following Michigan football’s win over Michigan State last weekend. There have already been suspensions and more should be coming, as well as arrests.

At the same time, Michigan football needs to be focused on the field and let the proper authorities handle the off-the-field stuff.

Rutgers is 4-4 on the season and just 1-4 in the Big Ten. Playing at Minnesota last week, the Scarlet Knights got blown out by a score of 31-0.

It followed a pattern of the offense struggling as Rutgers has averaged just over 10 points a game in Big Ten play and has only scored more than 13 points once in five Big Ten outings.

Rutgers has turned the offense over to former top-100 QB Gavin Wimsatt. Michigan football actually recruited him pretty hard, but he enrolled early last year and is still pretty raw. He was 6-of-17 before leaving the game last week in his first start. He’ll start Saturday too.

Michigan should be getting healthier but we don’t know the status of Gemon Green, who was assaulted by a bunch of Spartans after Michigan football beat Michigan State.

Yet, Will Johnson has proven to be up to the challenge. Hopefully, the Wolverines don’t have a letdown but after going to overtime on their last trip to Piscataway, as well as a one-score game a year ago in Ann Arbor, no one should take Rutgers lightly.

Here’s a look at the odds and our prediction against the spread.

Michigan football vs Rutgers odds

The Wolverines are favored by 26 points heading into this matchup and the over/under is set at 45.5 points for the Big Ten East matchup Saturday night.

Michigan football vs Rutgers prediction against the spread

Michigan hasn’t been as dominant against the spread this season as it was a year ago but the Wolverines are 4-4 this season. In games where they haven’t covered, they have been close, as in a few points off, so I’d say the 4-4 record is a little misleading.

Michigan has been dominant defensively and has only allowed one Big Ten opponent and one opponent all season to score more than 20 points. The Wolverines have only allowed one team to do that all season and they faced better offenses than Rutgers.

A night game in New Jersey is always worrisome, however, the stadium should have plenty of Michigan fans and I don’t see the home-field advantage being a huge issue.

Michigan games have also tended to finish under when it comes to the over/under and based on the Rutgers offensive output and Michigan’s stellar defense, I see U-M winning the game and covering the spread. I also think the offense is due for a breakout, so I’ll take the over.
