Michigan Football vs Indiana: Odds and prediction for College Football Week 6
The Wolverines will hit the road for the second straight week. This time Indiana awaits and here’s a look at the odds as well as our early prediciton.
After a huge road win at Iowa last week, a game in which Michigan football led 20-0 and wound up winning 27-14, the Wolverines will be on the road again this week.
It’s hard to believe but this game is already the midway point of the 2022 season for Michigan football. U-M is 5-0 right now and would become bowl eligible with a win on Saturday.
The Hoosiers are 3-2 and fresh off a loss at Nebraska. They are 1-1 in the Big Ten after a season-opening win over Illinois, a win that looks really good now, but they have lost two in a row on the road to Cincinnati and Nebraska.
Indiana has the 13th-ranked scoring defense in the Big Ten allowing 30 per game (only Nebraska is worse) while ranking 10th in the league in points scored. Michigan football is second and fourth in those same categories.
Indiana won the last matchup in Bloomington, which ended a lengthy losing streak to the Wolverines and you can bet Jim Harbaugh and company don’t want to experience that again.
Here’s a look at the odds and also a prediction.
Michigan football vs Indiana odds for College Football Week 6
The Wolverines opened as 18-point favorites according to some but in the latest odds via Fan Duel, Michigan football is a 21.5-point favorite. The money line is -1700 for Michigan and +890 for the Hoosiers, while the over/under is 58.5.
Michigan football vs Indiana prediciton
Over the past two seasons, Michigan football has been pretty good against the spread going 14-5. The losses were to Rutgers, Michigan State, and Georgia last year, as well as Maryland and Hawaii.
In every one of those games, Michigan probably should have covered except Georgia. Twice Michigan didn’t cover as a heavy home favorite. The only time they haven’t covered on the road since the start of last season was the MSU game and they did have a 16-point lead.
The point being is this Michigan team is a good bet. The Hoosiers have lost 10 of their last 11 Big Ten games and their defense is terrible. Beyond that, Indiana managed just 267 yards against a Nebraska defense that was allowing more than 450.
Nebraska had four sacks all season but notched three against Indiana and got a bunch of pressure. It also stoned the IU ground game and Nebraska has the worst run defense in the Big Ten.
Connor Bazelak and the Hoosiers will have some success throwing the ball. But I don’t see the Hoosiers slowing down Blake Corum, J.J. McCarthy, or the Michigan offense.
The five-star QB finally has a 300-yard game with the Wolverines, who hit on a few big pass plays. Blake Corum will also run for over 100 again and Michigan wins 45-17.
