3 biggest concerns for Michigan Football heading into Big Ten play
Backup QB
The topic of the backup quarterback became even more relevant this week after an injury to Cade McNamara who will miss a few games and won’t be available for Maryland.
J.J. McCarthy has been fantastic. His numbers have been off the charts. But now, he’s going to need to be even more careful, especially when it comes to running the ball.
One comforting thing last season was knowing that Michigan football had two really good quarterbacks. McCarthy was more of the understudy last season but if something happened to Cade, it was easy to have confidence in the five-star freshman.
With McCarthy starting, it was still easy to feel good about Cade as the backup. He’s a proven winner and despite his early struggles, he would play well if needed (in my opinion).
Now if something happens to McCarthy, there isn’t a proven option. Davis Warren or Alex Bowman would probably get the ball and that makes keeping McCarthy healthy even more important.
