The grades are going to be good when you win a game 59-0 but here’s a look at the report card for Michigan football against UConn.

People can and will complain about the Michigan football non-conference schedule. There are good things and bad things about it.

For one, Michigan football hasn’t really been tested. Part of that is how well the Wolverines played but the schedule was really soft.

They still scored over 50 points in each game and lead the nation in scoring offense, while ranking fourth in scoring defense. Nobody scored more than 10 points and no points were scored against the starting defense.

We’ll learn a lot more about Michigan football this Saturday when Maryland comes calling. But before we turn our attention to the Terps, here is the report card for UConn.

Offense: A-

The offense was efficient and converted 9-of-13 third downs. J.J. McCarthy looked like a seasoned pro and took what the defense was giving him. He completed 15-of-18 passes for 213 yards and did have three pass plays that went for more than 30 yards.

The running game was a little disappointing to me. I know Blake Corum scored five touchdowns but he didn’t have a breakout performance in terms of rushing yards in the three games and part of that was a lack of playing time due to lopsided scores.

A couple of times, the offensive line allowed too much pressure or didn’t run block well enough. It’s also dealt with some injuries, but so far, it hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.

Still, that’s pretty nitpicky and this offense has been pretty effective through three games, including on Saturday over UConn as it gained 465 yards.
