Michigan football wrapped up the non-conference part of their schedule with another clobbering of a porous UConn program.

It only took four plays for the Wolverines to find the end zone on the opening drive of the contest. Blake Corum busted it open outside to squeeze his way across the goal line. Nobody knew that it would be the first of five touchdowns that he would eventually score on this glorious Saturday September afternoon in the Big House.

Not much went wrong for Michigan football in their third consecutive snoozer of the year. J.J. McCarthy didn’t have to do much in his second career start either. He didn’t connect on three passes and has only missed on four of them all season long. More importantly, he hasn’t given the ball away to the other team for a turnover.

Cade McNamara came in late in the second and was deservedly cheered by the fans after unceremoniously and unwarrantedly booing him a week ago. He got sacked on his first snap, which dampened an otherwise special moment, then completed a pass to Ronnie Bell, but took a vicious shot that kept him out of the rest of the game. An update provided by coach Harbaugh following the affair confirmed that McNamara will be out a few weeks, but that it not season ending. His 2022 campaign could not have been off to a much worse start then this.

The Wolverines can now put the controversial past of their light schedule in the rear view mirror and focus for the tough as nails Big Ten. A Maryland squad, who should not be taken softly will come in next week salivating for a colossal upset and a landmark win for their coach Mike Locksley.

Here are the three takeaways.
