Michigan football hosted 2023 top target Chris Peal for the UConn game and here’s the latest on that recruitment plus the Wolverines trend with a 2024 WR.

You knew it was only a matter of time before Michigan football started to gain some real momentum on the recruiting trail, especially if the wins kept coming this fall as they did last season.

Not many folks felt great about Michigan football’s 2022 haul going into the season either. But we all know how that went down as guys like Kenneth Grant, Jimmy Rolder, Damani Dent, Keon Sabb, Derrick Moore, Darrius Clemson, and Amorion Walker all committed in the last couple of months.

Looking around the country, Michigan still has a lot to sell. It has a big-name coach who’s been to a Super Bowl and now, the College Football Playoff. NIL isn’t on the same level as others but it’s getting better and J.J. McCarthy is certainly helping.

The Wolverines have also been very strategic about their visits with 2023 recruits. Last weekend, for the Hawaii game, defensive tackle Kayden McDonald was the only official visitor and this past weekend, Michigan used the same approach with four-star cornerback Chris Peal.

Peal is one of the top targets on the board overall for Michigan and goes to the same school as five-star QB Jadyn Davis. Peal is a 2023 recruit and many have looked at him as a Georgia lean. All of the crystal ball projections are for Georgia and the On3 prediction machine gives UGA a 97-percent chance of winning out.

Many of those predictions came after an official visit to Georgia over the summer. Yet, Peal has visited the Bulldogs this fall too.

Peal is 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, and is ranked No. 182 overall according to the On3 consensus rankings. EJ Holland of The Wolverines reported that his official visit went well. But visits normally do. Peal was “all smiles” according to Holland and the way the Wolverines played defense had to help.

If I was a cornerback and watched Michigan’s secondary smother, someone, as they did UConn, allowing just 4-of-16 completions, I’d be impressed too. Not to mention the fact that Michigan is allowing under four yards per pass attempt.

Steve Clinkscale is a tremendous coach. He’s also a tremendous recruiter and while being out North Carolina State or Georgia won’t be easy, Michigan feels like it has some momentum here.

I’m just not sure if it’s enough to win a commitment. We shall see.

Michigan football is trending with a 2024 wide receiver

There were a couple of surprise visitors over the weekend. One was in-state recruit Brandon Davis-Swain, who is committed to Notre Dame but still visited Ann Arbor for the UConn game.

Davis-Swain is ranked in the top 100 in the 2024 class according to 247 sports composite rankings and flipping him would be huge. It’s a good sign to get him on campus and while there is still work to do, it’s a step in the right direction.

Another unexpected visitor was four-star wide receiver I’marion Stewart.

Stewart is out of Illinois and plays for the same school in Illinois as Tyler McLaurin. He visited Michigan football for the recruiting BBQ and was back for an unofficial visit.

The 6-foot, 165-pound wideout is ranked No. 277 overall in the On3 consensus rankings and Michigan has a 92-percent chance to win his commitment after an expert prediciton from EJ Holland. Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider also logged a crystal ball prediction for Stewart to wind up at U-M.

So it seems as if the Wolverines did a really good job with Stewart and hopefully, the same can be said for Peal, who would be a huge addition to the 2023 class.
