Grading Michigan Football’s blowout win over Hawaii
Special teams: A
It was another solid outing for Michigan football in the special teams department and nobody should be surprised. The Wolverines have arguably the best kicker/punter combination in the country and the coverage units have been spectacular.
Hawaii got one return off and managed just 23 yards. The Wolverines generated a 35-yard punt return by A.J. Henning, which was just another reason why he should stay back there. He’s a weapon and doesn’t get to touch the ball enough on offense.
I can see using Ronnie if the punt is going to near the zone or you really, really want to make sure it’s caught, but Henning is too talented not to be returning punts.
Coaching: A
The staff did what they needed to do. They allowed McCarthy to shine in his first start and I believe Harbaugh made the right call in naming him the starter after the game. It has become clear as he said it would.
I would like to see more guys get involved in the passing game such as Andrel Anthony and Henning. But it’s also been hard with the competition, which won’t get any better this week.
Still, the Wolverines have been sharp, so sharp that in two weeks, some have played only what amounts to one full game.
