Michigan football will have a new play-by-play voice and a new analyst in the radio booth this season after Jim Brandstatter and Dan Dierdorf retired.

The new crew, Dough Karsch (play-by-play) and Jon Jansen have been destined for the job they now have. Karsch had been the sideline reporter for Michigan football radio for the last 16 seasons. He also is on Detroit sports radio from 10 am-2 pm Monday through Friday as a co-host of the very popular “Karsch and Anderson” program.

Looking at Michigan football’s new radio duo

Jon Jansen is a former Michigan football captain. He was a part of the 1997 undefeated team that was crowned the Associated Press national champion. Jansen played in the NFL as he was drafted in 1999 by Washington. He finished his career in 2009 with the Lions. Jansen is also a co-host on local Detroit sports radio from 6 am-10 am on the popular “Stoney and Jansen” program.

Karsch and Jansen are very passionate about Michigan football and are ready to get the season underway as well as ready to work together in the booth. They both spoke with Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News.

"“When you work with somebody long enough, and especially when you’re sitting next to them, you can gauge by their body language, by their tone, by their facial expressions, when they have something to say, when they’re ending a point or a sentence,” Jansen said. “A lot of that is dictated on the field. I’ve got to let Doug talk about how they’re lining up, what the defense looks like, the snap. He calls the play, and then I jump in. There are other times where there needs to be a conversation, and that’s where our compatibility will really pay off.”"

You can listen to the new Michigan football radio crew on Saturday at noon as the Wolverines play host to Colorado State. It’s free to listen online at Mgoblue.com.
