10. Colorado State (Home September 3rd, 2022)

To open the 2022 football schedule, the Wolverines will face Colorado State, a team that was extremely inconsistent last season. The Rams had two games where they led at halftime against Power 5 opponents and entered Week 8 with a 3-3 record. But they also had a six-game losing streak to end the season and began 2021 with a 19-point loss to South Dakota State, the eighth-largest margin by an FCS team over an FBS team in the past five seasons.

Colorado State made some major changes over the offseason, hiring former Nevada head coach Jay Norvell who brought over some exciting transfers, such as Clay Millen, Tory Horton, and Melquan Stovall. The Rams should have a potent offense in 2022 but that still remains to be seen.

With this game being the opener for Colorado State and Michigan football, this game will surely be an exciting and emotional contest for both teams, particularly for Michigan.

The Wolverines had one of their best seasons in over a decade in 2021 and the need to build on that success is apparent. While Michigan has the talent to not only win this game but win convincingly, there will be pressure on everyone to build on the momentum of last season and that pressure can sometimes cause strange things to happen; putting this game above all other non-conference contests and landing at the #10 spot on this list.

9. Maryland (Home September 24th, 2022)

As Michigan closes out September and moves into its Big Ten schedule, the Wolverines will welcome the Terrapins for their fourth straight home game. Maryland finished 2021 with their first winning season since 2014 and won a bowl game for the first time in over a decade but struggled mightily in conference play.

Maryland went 3-6 against fellow Big Ten teams including a 59-18 loss against Michigan late in the season. While Maryland has some exciting players to watch, such as Taulia Tagovailoa, the Wolverines will get the upper hand early and continue their winning streak against the Terrapins.
