Michigan football has picked up a bunch of recent expert projections for 2023 recruits and another edge rusher is trending to the Wolverines.

The Wolverines have developed positive momentum in a number of different recruitments after official visit weekends in June and Michigan football is trending with more 2023 targets after hosting double-digit recruits for “Victors Weekend” last weekend.

So far, the results seem to be pretty favorable. Michigan football ended its commitment drought on Sunday by adding three-star composite tight end Deakon Tonielli, a top-500 prospect from Illinois who has nice upside as a pass-catcher.

Yet, the Wolverines also appeared to do a really good job with top-100 commitment Raylen Wilson, four-star offensive line target Amir Herring, who is now trending to Michigan, and also Enow Etta, a tip-top target who is ranked in the top 150 overall in the 247 composite rankings.

It seems like Michigan is set to land some commitments on July 1 and soon after as a number of targets are setting commitment dates. One that doesn’t have a date but could be deciding fairly soon is three-star edge rusher Tyler Thompson from North Carolina.

Breaking down a possible Michigan football commitment

Thompson is 6-foot-5, 200 pounds and he was on campus for an official visit this past weekend. He’s ranked No. 652 overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is 73rd among defensive linemen.

However, the staff is really high on his ability as an edge rusher and if there is one thing we have learned over the past few cycles, it’s that Michigan tends to nail its evaluations. If the Wolverines are high on him, then you should want his commitment.

Steve Lorenz and Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider have each projected Thompson to the Wolverines. He also has some Futurecasts for Michigan over at Rivals.

North Carolina seems to be the biggest threat. Thompson is from Cary, North Carolina and the Tar Heels were able to win some recruitments in 2022 over Michigan.

Yet, the academics of Michigan also seem to be helping the Wolverines here, and with their proven ability to develop raw pass rushers into NFL-caliber players, this should be a win.
