Michigan Football: Is the commitment drought about to end?
Michigan football hasn’t had a verbal commitment on the recruiting trail since March but it feels like the drought could end this weekend.
As our own Kyler Kregel broke down earlier this week, it’s a busy weekend for Michigan football recruiting as the Wolverines are hosting double-digit recruits for official visits.
The number was supposed to be 13, however, Arkansas commit, Luke Hasz was supposed to visit but has canceled his trip.
But there are still a dozen recruits in Ann Arbor this weekend and the Wolverines are trending in the right direction for a few of them such as offensive linemen Logan Howland and Chris Terek, as well as EDGE Collins Acheampong, and defensive back Jyaire Hill.
Michigan football also received a couple of expert projections for 2023 defensive end Enow Etta, another top target, but he won’t visit until next weekend. However, he’s at Michigan State this weekend so that’s something to watch for.
Top-end talent is on campus too
The Wolverines don’t lead with Jeremiyah Love according to the On3 prediction machine and it’s another Notre Dame-Michigan battle but he’s in Ann Arbor this weekend and it’s a chance to take the lead, just as it is for three-star wideout Fredrick Moore.
The thing that complicates that is that the Wolverines are hosting five-star wideout Jalen Brown in two weeks and seem to have a legit shot there, while also getting an official visit from top-50 wideout Johntay Cook, a dynamic playmaker that Texas and A&M are both pushing hard to land.
Yet, I love Moore and I don’t see the Wolverines landing Cook in the end, so I’d love to see Michigan football push hard to land Moore, who also has Michigan State and Illinois in the mix according to the On3 prediction machine.
In all, Michigan is hosting a trio of top-100 recruits in Love who is ranked 68th overall and fifth among running backs in the On3 consensus rankings (U-M is recruiting him as a DB too), Makari Vikers (87th overall), and John Walker, a 320-pound defensive tackle from Florida will also be on campus and he’s ranked 92nd overall in the 2023 recruiting class.
Tight end Chico Holt is another recruit Michigan football leads with, but regardless of who, the Wolverines really need a commitment coming out of this weekend to start building momentum.
