Michigan Football: Another 2024 QB to know, plus a new offer

Julian Sayin is another 2024 quarterback recruit that Michigan football fans need to know about, plus a new offer at the position in the class of 2025.

Quarterback recruiting is a hot topic for Michigan football fans right now as the Wolverines are pursuing a pair of five-star recruits at the position — Dante Moore and CJ Carr.

Moore is from Detroit and is ranked by the On3.com consensus rankings as the No. 8 overall prospect in 2023, as well as the No. 4 QB.

Carr, who is the grandson of former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr, who led the Wolverines to a national title in 1997, is ranked 23rd overall in the 2024 class according to On3, as well as fifth among QBs.

The Wolverines are the crystal ball leader for Carr and also have the strongest chance of landing him according to the On3 prediction machine, which gives U-M a 55-percent chance compared to 42 percent for Notre Dame, which received a crystal ball of its own recently.

As far as Dante Moore, he recently visited Oregon, and the Ducks are trending up in his recruitment, as is Texas A&M. Moore said last week he wil visit the Aggies, so that’s another reason to be concerned about his recruitment.

In the midst of all this, Michigan football’s QB coach Matt Weiss was out in California paying a visit to another top QB target in the 2024 class, Julian Sayin. This was according to a report from EJ Holland of The Wolverine (subscription required).

Sayin is ranked 13th overall in the 2024 class according to the On3 consensus rankings. He’s also third among quarterbacks and is out of Carlsbad, California. He’s 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, and is being targeted by Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Georiga, Florida, and many others.

However, Sayin did take an unofficial visit to Michigan football in April, which was a good sign and Weiss has been working to build that relationship.

At the same time, I’d personally love to see any time Weiss has to recruit invested in Carr and/or Moore. Michigan is still in the mix for Moore, but even if the Wolverines decided to pull back there, they should be investing their time in Carr.

I understand that Sayin is ranked higher and is showing interest. However, after Dylan Raiola just committed to Ohio State, USC is probably going to become more of a player in his recruitment.

Florida and Georgia are also in need of elite QBs in 2024, especially if the Dawgs miss out on Arch Manning. And the NIL factor is always a concern for Michigan and that’s why at the end of the day, U-M has a better chance with Carr than Sayin, at least in my opinion.

Carr’s recent crystal ball to Notre Dame showed that the Irish are giving him the kind of love Michigan isn’t and this move by Weiss is confusing.

Carr needs to feel the love and with Moore’s recruitment slipping away, all of Michigan’s eggs should be in Carr’s basket, instead of leaving him wondering if he’s really the top priority at the position.

It seems simple, yet with a pair of five-star QBs in their own state in consecutive classes, the Wolverines seem to be doing their best to screw it up.

A new QB offer in 2025

Soon we will be talking about quarterbacks in the 2025 class and while Michigan football has already extended some offers at the position, another went out this week to Bear Bachmeier.

Bachmeier is out of Murrieta, California, and Michigan football is the second program to offer him at the FBS level after Boise State.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect announced the offer on his Twitter account earlier this week and he’ll be a name to watch along with Ryan Montgomery, who is probably the top target at the position early in the 2025 class for the Wolverines.
