Fans of Michigan football recruiting are in a bit of a panic right now as legacy recruit CJ Carr received a crystal ball projection to Notre Dame.

If you haven’t seen or heard, 247 sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong dropped a pretty significant crystal ball on Sunday for Michigan football fans as he projected CJ Carr to Nore Dame.

Carr is the grandson of former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr and he’s also a top-50 quarterback recruit the 2024 class. Prior to this, Michigan was widely viewed as the favorite to land Carr and even picked up three early crystal ball projections.

Yet, the Irish have been making a strong push too and Carr recently visited South Bend. Maybe, Carr feels like Michigan has taken him for granted, who knows, but this crystal ball from Wiltfong with a confidence level of 6 (1-10) scale is worrisome.

Michigan is after two top-tier quarterbacks in its neighborhood. Carr is one of them and he’s in the 2024 class. The other is 2023 five-star Dante Moore.

Michigan was long viewed as the favorite for Moore too, but Notre Dame has taken on that title of late, however, Moore also visited Miami this weekend and is heading to LSU later this month, so the Irish could be losing ground in that recruitment.

What all this means in recruitments of CJ Carr, Dante Moore

Many thought that if Moore went to Notre Dame, Carr would become a Michigan lock, because, as we discussed last week, it’s going to be hard for any school to get both, especially U-M due to its current quarterback depth chart.

The path to early playing time is easier in South Bend than in Ann Arbor and that seems to be a factor for Moore. And Carr, well, it seems like Carr is waiting to see what Moore is going to do.

If Moore winds up at Notre Dame, I still see Carr ending up at Michigan. But I don’t see both going to Notre Dame, just as I don’t see both going to Michigan.

The worst-case scenario is Moore choosing Miami or LSU and then Carr going to Notre Dame. Missing on one local five-star (I believe Carr will be one eventually) can be explained if you land the other, but missing on both? That’s inexcusable.

Remember to breathe.

Moore has indicated he’s not making a decision right away and I don’t see Carr making one either, plus signing day in December 2024 is about 19 months away.

So there is time for Michigan football to make its move in both recruitments.

That being said, Jim Harbaugh needs to assert himself because it’s clear Matt Weiss isn’t a great recruiter and if the Wolverines want to land Moore or Carr, it will be on Harbaugh to get it done.

dark. Next. Post-spring depth chart projections

Just as the blame will be at his feet if the Wolverines fail to land at least one of the two.
