Michigan Football finally gaining ground with Dante Moore
Following a positive update and an expected visit coming up soon, Michigan football finally has some momentum with Dante Moore.
There has been a lot of questions and concern about Michigan football’s 2023 recruiting class. The biggest concern has been the recruitment of Dante Moore, the five-star quarterback from Detroit who is unequivocally the Wolverines’ top target.
We have discussed Moore at length, so we all know how good he is and how rare it is for Michigan football to have a five-star quarterback recruit so close to home.
Recently, Notre Dame has emerged as the favorite and there was even concern that Moore could have committed on a recent visit to the Irish. That panic proved to be unwarranted. However, Moore visited Ohio State the very next weekend.
According to the On3.com prediction machine, Michigan football dropped all the way to fourth in the running with Notre Dame, Oregon, and LSU all projected to have a better chance than U-M.
It’s been apparent that Michigan needed to flip the momentum with Dante and it appears that the Wolverines have started to do that according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
Holland had a lot of info (subscription required) on Moore in one of the first “optimistic” updates on Moore in quite some time. He also reported a visit to U-M is happening soon.
What it all means for Michigan football
It’s good to see that Weiss and Michigan are making a better effort to connect with Moore and truth be told, this recruitment reminds me some of Will Johnson’s and Donovan Edwards.
Michigan trailed in both of those recruitments at key junctures, only to see Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines turn things around.
U-M landed Edwards after going 2-4 in the 2020 season and Johnson pledged to the Wolverines before last season’s turnaround happened.
In fact, he expressed confidence before the season that Michigan was going to rebound.
Moore is from right down the road and Holland says he’s close to Johnson. That influence has to be good for the Wolverines and if Johnson is playing a bigger role, it’s good for U-M.
Another positive is the fact that Moore isn’t making a decision anytime soon. That gives Michigan football a legitimate chance to flip this recruitment, starting with the next visit.
Harbaugh needs to get more involved as he did with Johnson and Weiss needs to keep investing more time on the recruiting trail. It’s hard to win games without big-time recruits, especially at QB and Moore is as good as it gets.
He’s a must-land target and it’s good to see that Michigan is at least getting a sense of urgency.
