New play-callers

Another interesting aspect of Michigan football’s spring game on Saturday will be the new coordinators taking over the first time, particularly on offense.

Josh Gattis has been around for the past three years. It’s been his system and it will be interesting to see how things are with Sherrone Moore and Matt Weiss in charge. I don’t think the offense will change drastically.

Moore, Weiss, and Mike Hart were all key parts of building it, along with Harbaugh. Gattis wasn’t known for power football and his offense didn’t work until it was molded with Jim’s offense from the Stanford days.

I believe we will still see tight ends blocking plenty and lots of power stuff, with pulling offensive lineman. The Wolverines can still do all that.

We’ll see more A.J. Henning it sounds like, as both a receiver and a running back, but I’m interested to see how all the different pieces on offense are used, even as the are likely Wolverines are going to keep things close to the vest.

The defensive side of the ball will also be intriguing with Jesse Minter and Steve Clinkscale running the show. There’s only so much you can learn from a spring game but it will still be good to get a feel for the new playcallers as we head into the 2022 season.
