The second-year leaps

Obviously, the second-year leap most Michigan football fans were interested in was that of J.J. McCarthy who was supposed to contend for the starting quarterback job this spring before he was sidelined to rest his shoulder.

But there are still plenty of names to be excited about, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We all know Donovan Edwards is ready for a much bigger role in 2022 and I can’t wait to see him or wide receiver Andrel Anthony in the spring game.

Anthony and Edwards both look like potential early NFL draft picks — something Michigan football hasn’t had in a skill guy since the days of Braylon Edwards and Chris Perry.

The excitement shouldn’t be limited to those guys though. Benny is a name to watch on the defensive side of the ball and another on offense is tight end Louis Hansen. He was one of the most underrated additions in 2021 and if it wasn’t for a loaded group of tight ends, you would be hearing about Hansen even more.

I expect him to make a couple of plays on Saturday and in general, I think a bunch of these second-year guys are going to excel in the spring game.
