Donovan Edwards

Entering his sophomore season with the Wolverines is Donovan Edwards, the former five-start in-state recruit that made his presence felt throughout his freshman season in Ann Arbor.

Edwards brings much to the table for Michigan football — most notably a healthy combination of size, speed, and pass-catching ability. Throughout 2021 Edwards began to take on a more significant role in Michigan’s offense, eventually becoming the backup to former Michigan football star Hassan Haskins when Blake Corum was out with a lower-body injury.

Heading into 2022, one thing is certain: Donovan Edwards is a part of one of the most dedicated recruiting classes in Michigan football history and will likely head into the coming season in the best shape of his life.

Though Edwards has a similar play style to Blake Corum, he is a better receiving back and can even throw the ball, as demonstrated during the Big Ten Championship game in December of 2021.

It is worth pointing out that Edwards can also return kicks and punts, and with some questions surrounding that aspect of Michigan’s game plan in 2022, Edwards may see the field even more on special teams.

With Edwards and Corum leading the way, Michigan football is in good hands when it comes to the backfield.
