2021 was unarguably one of the Wolverines’ best seasons in 30 years. With a Heisman runner-up in Aidan Hutchinson, a win over Ohio State,12-2 record, Big Ten title, and playoff berth, Michigan football did it all last season. Heading into 2022, one key opening remains to be filled: the loss of Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo.

Hutchinson and Ojabo were two of the nations leading pass-rushers, inflicting pain on all quarterbacks the duo came across and forcing teams to game-plan around them week in and week out. After putting up historic numbers in 2021, Ojabo and Hutchinson declared for the 2022 NFL draft and will take the next step in their football careers.

Since Jim Harbaugh’s return to Ann Arbor in 2015, the Wolverines have never been short of a defensive end. With big names such as Chase Winvovich, Rashan Gary, Kwitty Paye, Taco Charlton, and many more, Michigan has always been able to fall back on its edge-rushing talent. A new young star will need to emerge now that Heisman trophy runner-up Aidan Hutchinson has declared. That star will likely be Mike Morris.

Out of high school, Morris was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and was placed as the No. 48 prospect in Florida in the class of 2018. With a 6’6″, 278lb frame, Morris has the size and speed to be a threat to all Big Ten quarterbacks. If Morris has developed over his three seasons with the program, he could turn into an elite talent at the position and is a crucial player to watch this spring.
