Michigan Football: 3 position battles to watch on offense this spring
Wide receiver
Another position that should have some heated competition this spring and heading into fall camp is at wide receiver.
The good thing about the wide receiver position is that even if a guy doesn’t start, he can still make an impact. The depth chart doesn’t matter quite as much and things can be pretty fluid.
Andrel Anthony, for instance, was never at the top of the depth chart last season but he caught two touchdowns against Michigan State and play a key role at times. Others such as Roman Wilson, A.J. Henning, Mike Sainristil, and Cornelius Johnson all took their turns producing too.
This season, with Ronnie Bell coming back from injury, the position will be crowded which is one reason why Sainristil moved over to defensive back. Bell, Johnson, Wilson, Anthony, and Henning should all have roles in the offense, but others such as freshman Darrius Clemons could have a chance to crack the two-deep too.
Henning is expected to play more in the backfield next season but he’s also dangerous in the slot and as the spring goes along and even in the spring game, it will be fun to watch how the battle for playing time at wide receiver plays out.
