Breakout candidates

Another key thing to watch during spring football practices is breakout players. It’s no big secret that Michigan football is losing a number of key players to the NFL, especially on defense.

Aidan Hutchinson, Daxton Hill, and David Ojabo all have a good chance of being picked in the first round, while Michigan also has to replace Brad Hawkins, Josh Ross, Chris Hinton, and Vincent Gray.

That’s essentially seven-starting caliber players that are gone for Michigan football. However, talent remains. Johnson can step in at corner for Gray and start opposite DJ Turner who broke out last season but could still take a jump in 2022.

Kris Jenkins, Mike Morris, Junior Colson, Jaylen Harrell, and Rod Moore are all names to watch on the defensive side of the ball this spring, as well as Braiden McGregor, T.J. Guy, and others.

On offense, it will be most interesting to see how some of the skill position guys have developed. There is usually a big improvement from year one to year two and that could mean big things for J.J. McCarthy, Donovan Edwards, Andrel Anthony, and Louis Hansen.
