Lock up the current staff

Losing Gattis to Miami doesn’t have to be the end of the world for Michigan football. Sherrone Moore, who was the co-offensive coordinator last season and O-line coach is even more important than Gattis, as is running backs coach Mike Hart.

That isn’t trying to discount Josh Gattis. He really improved last season and did a solid job for the Wolverines, even winning the Broyles Award. That being said, I’d be much more concerned about losing either Moore or Hart.

Webb is reporting that Moore is going to get a promotion. He was the co-OC last season so that will likely include a pay raise. Matt Weiss feels like he’s due a promotion and those two could be sharing the OC role.

That’s a good move if what Webb reports is true. But Mike Hart also needs to be kept and he should be offered a big raise as well as a title such as associate head coach.

Harbaugh and Michigan football also need to make sure Steve Clinkscale gets his due as co-DC. He was an essential part of last season’s improvement and must be kept.

I don’t think there is any worry about Weiss leaving, but it’s essential that Jim keeps Moore, Hart, and Clink on staff by whatever means are necessary.
