Wings

Caleb Houstan: C

Michigan basketball needed a big game from Caleb Houstan to win and scoring 11 points on 1-of-3 from 3-point range doesn’t exactly qualify. In the first half, Houstan looked far too timid. The Breslin Center is a tough place to play and Michigan-Michigan State is a different kind of intensity and Houstan looked like a high schooler for most of the day. He was 3-of-6 but he, along with many others, made some mental errors and the first go-around in this game was a rough one.

Terrance Williams: D

It was the second straight underwhelming game for Terrance Williams who scored just two points in 14 minutes of action. His defensive rating was the second-worst on the team at 1.26 points per possession (only Johns was worse) and his offensive rating was 0.76. Michigan needs him to be consistent from 3-point range but he was 0-for-2 and didn’t make much impact.

Kobe Bufkin: D

I’m going to throw Kobe in with the wings. He did score a bucket, knocking down a 3-pointer while the game was competitive and that was good to see. But he also left Max Christie wide open for a 3-point attempt, which canceled out his own make. It was a learning experience like it was for Houstan and others.
