Running Back

Running back will be an important position for the Wolverines in the 2023 class. As of this writing, the Wolverines have one signee in the 2022 class- three-star running back C.J. Stokes. Three-star Andrew Paul could still join the class and he took his official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend. However, as it stands right now, the Wolverines have four scholarship running backs entering the 2022 season.

There is also the possiblity that Blake Corum heads to the NFL after this season. For a team that loves running the ball as much as Michigan, running back depth is a priority.

The good news is Michigan football sits in the top group for several of its top targets in 2023 thus far Four-star Jayden Limar already has taken two unofficial visits to campus. That is particularly notable since he is from Washington state.

Limar is an explosive athlete. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, he runs a 4.46 in the 40 and has a 41.5 inch vertical. He has Michigan in a top group that includes Notre Dame and Washington. The Huskies lead on the crystal ball, however it may end up a Michigan-Notre Dame battle as he says those are the two programs recruiting him the hardest right now (subscription required). He is the No. 14 running back  and the 230th overall prospect in the 2023 class.

Michigan issued an offer to Florida four-star Samuel Singleton and he took an unofficial visit to campus in November. Singleton has Michigan among his top group and he is also high on Florida State. Singleton is listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds and he is also a track star. He ran a 10.86 in the 100M and 22.40 in the 200M as a sophomore. Singleton is No. 5 running back and 104th overall prospect in his class.

It appears that Michigan football is looking to add more speed to its backfield this cycle. Another prospect that fits that bill is Dexter (MI) three-star Cole Cabana. Michigan just extended Cabana an offer(subscription required) during his latest trip to campus on Saturday. He also took an unofficial visit for the Rutgers game in October.

Cabana ran a 10.69 in the 100M last season. Michigan State leads on his crystal ball, but all of those predictions were back in October prior to Michigan’s offer. I’d expect Michigan to take two backs in 2023 and landing two of Limar, Singleton, and Cabana would be a solid haul.
