Leadership

It doesn’t matter how good or bad a football team is, every team needs and has to have leaders that step up when things get rough or to keep players in line when situations get tough.

Every single NFL team that is bad, more often than not, needs a culture change. Whether it be as high as the owner down to the head coach and/or his assistant coaches. Just look at the Jacksonville Jaguars with Urban Meyer for example.

Jacksonville has the #1 pick for a reason. They probably had the worst culture in the entire NFL, with their former head coach getting into the national headlines seemingly every week.

Now, a lot of the internal issues had to do with coaching and the poor staff personnel choices of the Jaguars front office, but at the same time, the situation doesn’t get any better if there aren’t any players stepping up and rallying the team.

We’ve already heard so many stories from this past football season about how good Aidan Hutchinson was at rallying the guys in the locker room, and his proudest moment was definitely after the loss to Michigan State.

Jim Harbaugh has commented ad nauseum about how much of a leader Aidan Hutchinson was to the younger guys, and once Aidan Hutchinson becomes a veteran in the NFL, he will really be able to lead an NFL team.

No offense to Kayvon Thibodeaux, but I haven’t heard anything real concrete about his leadership qualities from Oregon.

The talent is definitely there, but NFL scouts and executives look for more than just talent. It’s pretty much like trying to get into a college. You can’t just have the grades.

Your transcript has to be well-rounded, with other qualities that stick out as well. Leadership and getting guys to buy in is a tremendous quality to have. It’s almost like having another head coach in the locker room.
