UCLA DL Tiaoalii Savea

UCLA was a thorn in Michigan’s side last year when DT Jay Toia was released from his letter of intent from USC. He stayed in Los Angeles after a promising official visit to Michigan and the Wolverines could certainly use Toia now after the unexpected departure of Chris Hinton to the NFL.

Perhaps, Michigan football could return the favor by landing Savea.

Savea was a four-star recruit out of high school and he was good enough to burn his redshirt for the Bruins. He played in 10 games and recorded seven tackles, one pass defended, and two quarterback hurries. He was part of a UCLA run defense that ranked 26th in rushing yards allowed.

Savea is 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds and he has good quickness for his size while also possessing the strength to hold on his own on the interior.

Savea will likely play in the 300 range as an upperclassman. UCLA also runs a 3-4 defense so Savea would be playing in a familiar scheme on a defensive line with playing time. However, he has received a crystal ball to USC, so the Wolverines will need to make a move on him quickly in order to land him. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
