Michigan Football: Keon Sabb gives Wolverines elite DB haul in 2022
Michigan football landed a huge commitment on Early Signing Day as Keon Sabb, a top-100 defensive back has signed with the Wolverines.
We told Michigan football fans to expect some fireworks on Early Signing Day and so far, that promise has turned out to be true.
Of course, not all of the news has been good news for the Wolverines. Three-star edge rusher Ethan Burke flipped his commitment and will sign with Texas. Deone Walker also announced that he will be signing with Kentucky, instead of Michigan.
That hurts especially for an in-state prospect that Michigan was the first to offer. But the Wolverines got a positive swing in momentum by flipping Amorion Walker from Notre Dame and then, soon after, Michigan football landed its biggest (unknown) recruit of the day — Keon Sabb.
Sabb has been trending Michigan’s way ever since the Ohio State game. He was committed to Clemson and backed off that. But Georiga made a strong push to land him, along with LSU and Ohio State.
But despite all of that, Sabb announced for the Wolverines this morning in one of the biggest gets in the entire 2022 recruiting class for Michigan football
Michigan might have the best secondary class in the country
With Sabb joining the mix Michigan football has an elite haul at defensive back.
Will Johnson is a five-star recruit that will be signing today and is joined now by Zeke Berry, a top-200 prospect (rated 65th by 247 sports), and Sabb, who is ranked in the top 100 of the 247 sports composite rankings.
Joining those guys are four-star recruit Kody Jones, as well as underrated three-star Myles Pollard and Damani Dent, a three-star with huge upside.
Michigan’s defense was outstanding this season under Mike Macdonald but Steve Clinkscale was a big part of that and this secondary haul is in large part to him and Ron Bellamy.
This group is impressive and there’s a good chance that Johnson, Berry, and Sabb all compete for playing time right away. I fully expect Will Johnson to be a day-one starter or at least be in the rotation as a top three or four guy.
Michigan now is waiting on a few more 2022 decisions but the class is looking like it will finish easily in the top 10 and have a nice blue-chip ratio too.
