Pride comes before the fall

Ohio State isn’t going anywhere. Let’s be clear about that. But Ryan Day got a big head. He got overconfident and his program paid the price Saturday at the Big House.

It’s happened to Michigan before, as we all know with the little brother comments about Michigan State. Mark Dantonio famously said, “Pride comes before the fall.”

He was right and that’s exactly what I thought when Day said the Buckeyes were going to hang 100 on Michigan the next time they played. Or, how Ohio State fans and former players cheered obnoxiously when news of Harbaugh’s extension was announced.

Less than a year later, instead of leftover turkey, they got a big helping of crow.

And to be clear, this win by Michigan football wasn’t a fluke. The Wolverines led for all but five minutes of game action. They ran for nearly 300 yards and Ohio State was penalized because it played sloppy football.

The truth is that Ohio State’s offensive line got away with about 20 holds. Plus any argument about officials is rich as Michigan was clearly on the wrong end in 2016.

Either way, as Harbaugh said, this is just the beginning. Day will be motivated for his own revenge and who knows, if neither head coach leaves for the NFL, we might have the makings of another ten-year war.
