Michigan Basketball: Takeaways, grades from loss to Arizona
Caleb Houstan needs to get out of this slump
This roster was always going to be short on shooting. Michigan basketball lost Isaiah Livers, Franz Wagner, Mike Smith, and Chaundee Brown. All four of those guys were more than capable from downtown and the Wolverines are clearly lacking in perimeter shooting.
Caleb Houstan was expected to fill that void but through five games, the five-star freshman hasn’t lived up to the billing. He’s shooting just 31 percent from the field and 23 percent from 3-point range.
At times, over the weekend, he struggled to even hit the rim. He certainly has the deer in the headlights look but Michigan doesn’t really have any other options. He’s an elite shooter, he just needs to find his confidence, which won’t be easy, but that’s the task ahead.
Houstan just doesn’t seem to know what he wants to do when he catches the ball. He’s just thinking too much but Juwan should keep running plays for him. Eventually, the shots will start to fall and Michigan doesn’t really have any other options right now.
