Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in win over Northwestern
First real test
The Wolverines have a great formula right now for winning games. They are the top rushing team in the Big Ten and their defense, is one of the best in the country in terms of points allowed.
The defense will give up some chunk plays, such as a 75-yard touchdown but the pass defense, especially D.J. Turner looks improved and for the third straight game, Michigan football forced at least two turnovers.
Mike Macdonald’s defense has been pretty good about not surrendering tons of yards and giving up lots of points, but the way it has started to take the ball away is the difference between a good defense and a great defense.
Michigan will need more takeaways next week and it’s going to need the running game to show out in force. We all know how much the ground game matters in Michigan vs Michigan State.
The Spartans have Kenneth Walker III who is the nation’s leading rusher, while Michigan football has the two-headed monster in Corum and Haskins.
Whichever team wins that battle and the turnover battle, will win the game and the Paul Bunyan and we will also finally find out if this Michigan team is really for real.
