One Michigan football opponent this season looked terrible in Week Zero, plus Zach Charbonnet has a stellar debut for UCLA.

It might have been a bummer for Michigan football fans to see Zach Charbonnet break out for 106 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday for the UCLA Bruins, but they shouldn’t be shocked.

Charbonnet was a former top-50 recruit and he’s playing for a head coach who has a system that’s been pretty friendly to running backs over the years.

And while Charbonnet’s yardage total might not be that impressive, the fact that he needed only six carries to score three times and get over 100 yards is. So was this run:

But also, this came against Hawaii. And regardless, Michigan football fans shouldn’t worry about what Zach does in what’s clearly a better situation for him.

The Wolverines needed to get the ball more to Hassan Haskins and they started doing that at the end of last year. Charbonnet got passed up and that’s a reason he transferred. He would have obviously had a role this year but that limits the touches of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.

I loved Charbonnet when he committed to Michigan and when he left, I knew the Wolverines were losing a really good player. It just didn’t work out and it was probably better for both sides.

Nebraska losses ugly

The first game of the Big Ten schedule was played on Saturday and Bret Bielema, the former Wisconsin head coach, won his first game with Illinois over Scott Frost and Nebraska.

For the Huskers, it was just a bad loss. They gave Illinois a safety on one of the dumbest plays you’ll ever see and then, on an interception, committed two personal fouls, which were avoidable.

That took an interception off the board and allowed Illinois to tie the game. A fumble returned for a score after Adrian Martinez was sacked showed nothing has changed. It was the same thing we’ve seen during the Frost era and his seat is hotter than ever.

Nebraska just can’t get out of its own way. With Michigan visiting Nebraska, I have to say I was worried about that game.

And this Nebraska team can still be dangerous, especially at home. It should have won the game yesterday, but the mistakes just continue.

Next. Game-by-game predictions for 2021. dark

In my game-by-game predictions, I actually had Nebraska beating the Wolverines. But after seeing that things haven’t changed a bit in Lincoln, I see Michigan football winning that game and getting to nine wins instead of eight.
