We are closing in on the start of the 2021 Michigan football season and here’s a game-by-game prediction of how the Wolverines will fare.

On Friday, the Michigan football team hit the practice field for the first time this fall and before you know it, September 4th will be here.

That’s when Michigan football will open the 2021 season and while Wolverines fans probably have some trepidation heading into this campaign, it’s time to put the painful memory of 2020 behind us.

Jim Harbaugh has hired a bunch of new assistants, signed a new contract, and recruited a new five-star quarterback, as well as a five-star running back. Michigan also returns a bunch of veterans from a team that was pretty inexperienced a year ago.

Will this season be different from 2020? Only time will here but here are our game-by-by predictions for Michigan football this fall:

This is expected to be the first game with a full Big House. Last year, we had basically just cardboard cutouts, but even they had disappointing looks on their faces as the Wolverines didn’t win a single home game in 2020 (0-3).

That will change quickly in 2021 as the Wolverines will handle their business against Western Michigan with Cade McNamara starting at quarterback. I also expect five-star freshman J.J. McCarthy to make his debut. The defense also dominates under new DC Mike Macdonald.

The Broncos went 4-2 last season and averaged more than 40 points per game. But the talent gap is too wide and Michigan wins easily.

Final score: Michigan 45, Western Michigan 17 (1-0)

Michigan football was supposed to head to Washington last season but the game was canceled and the trip will be made in the future. This season, however, the Huskies will come to Ann Arbor for a pivotal game.

Harbaugh and the Wolverines need to make a statement and this is the first chance to do so. Washington is going through a QB battle of its own as Dylan Morris is battling Sam Huard for the job.

Jimmy Lake was 3-1 in his debut season for the Huskies and his team returns all five starters on the offensive line which should challenge U-M’s biggest weakness on defense from a year ago.

The Huskies are also looking for a statement win and whichever team gets it will likely surge into the top-25 with momentum heading into conference play. Yet, Michigan will find a way to win what turns into a defensive battle.

Final score: Michigan 20, Washington 13 (2-0)
