Michigan football is looking to add to its 2022 recruiting class this month and here are four potential commitments in the month of August.

As we move towards the middle of August, it has been more than a month since Michigan football has picked up a commitment on the recruiting trail.

Momentum as it were has petered out. Michigan football seemed on the verge of landing two talented three-star recruits from the state of Texas in Dillon Bell and Jeremy Patton, only to see those recruitments go the wrong way at the end.

With 15 commitments, Michigan ranks 13th in the country right now according to the 247 sports team rankings for 2022 and U-M is third in the Big Ten behind Penn State and Ohio State.

However, it’s clear that some recruits are clearly wanting to wait and see the product on the field before making a final decision. Even those that have committed such as Will Johnson have talked about wanting to see the Wolverines play well.

If the bottom falls out, it’s hard to see Johnson sticking with his pledge, especially if it got to the point that Harbaugh was being let go. To be fair, I don’t see that happening. I’ve predicted Michigan football to win eight games but feel somewhere in the 7-10 range is doable.

Yet, even though some recruits are going to wait, there are still some who could commit this month, and here are four candidates to join Michigan football’s 2022 class in August.

4-star ATH Dillon Tatum

Dillon Tatum was on my list of potential commitments in July too and that didn’t happen, but he keeps saying he will decide this month as he wants to focus on his senior season at West Bloomfield.

All of the crystal ball projections are still pointing towards Michigan. Tatum also visited Ann Arbor at the end of July, just before the dead period, and didn’t visit Michigan State.

Tennessee has jumped into the mix and that could cause a delay if Tatum has a strong interest in the Vols and wants to take a visit before deciding. Yet, if he sticks to the timeline this month, it feels like Michigan or Michigan State.

I’ve said this is a 50/50 recruitment and while I’d give the Wolverines a slight edge, in part because of Ron Bellamy, Tatum’s former high school coach being on staff, it’s narrow and it wouldn’t shock me if this recruitment went either way.

Here are three other recruits who could pledge to Michigan football this month.
