It wasn’t that long ago that Northern Illinois was a power in the MAC but last season, the Huskies went 0-6. They were really young and while that should help this season, it’s hard to see the Huskies coming into the Big House and making a game of it.

Northern Illinois could have a familiar face starting at quarterback as Rocky Lombardi is their likely starter. The defense returns 20 of its top 21 tacklers from a season ago so this will be a decent tune-up for Big Ten play and another win.

Final score: Michigan 38, NIU 20 (3-0)

Last year, Michigan football had to go to overtime and have Rutgers miss a field goal to escape with a win. The Scarlet Knights are improving under Greg Schiano and they won’t be a pushover this year either for the Wolverines.

But this game is at the Big House and even though Rutgers will put forth a solid effort, even hanging around for a while with guys like Bo Melton making plays, Michigan football pulls away in the end and wins by double digits thanks to a stellar showing from Hassan Haskins.

Final score: Michigan 31, Rutgers 17 (4-0)
