Michigan Football: Bad news with a top WR target in 2022
Michigan football hasn’t been getting good news on the recruiting trail recently and this weekend, Dillon Bell is visiting Georgia, which is bad news for the Wolverines.
Wednesday was already expected to be a disappointing day for fans of Michigan football recruiting as the Wolverines don’t seem like they are going to land Sebastian Cheeks, a top target at linebacker who seems destined to commit to North Carolina.
However, Cheeks did stop in Ann Arbor over the weekend prior to his announcement which comes this afternoon. So it’s possible Michigan football still has a shot. However, with all the crystal balls pointing to North Carolina, anyone but the Tar Heels would be a surprise.
Yet, the news that Cheeks is likely to pick North Carolina isn’t new. That started happening over the weekend following his announcement of his commitment date.
What is news is that three-star wide receiver Dillon Bell, a recruit that Sam Webb just called a must-get on the most recent episode of the Michigan Insider Podcast, is taking a visit to Georgia this weekend which prompted Steve Wiltfong, a national analyst for 247 sports, who first reported the news of the visit, to drop the confidence in his Michigan crystal ball to a one.
We all know what that usually means.
Bell is ranked as the No. 568 recruit overall in the 2022 class according to the composite rankings but following his visit to Michigan football, he got offers from Auburn, Texas A&M, and Georgia.
Bell is out of Houston and the Wolverines were the clear leader, at least a few weeks ago as they were trending with crystal ball predictions, but according to Wiltfong, there is confidence from the Georgia folks so I’d watch out for a flip of crystal balls and maybe even a commitment from Bell.
He has said he wants to commit in November on his birthday, but he has also talked about that timeline being more flexible and I’m sure the Bulldogs will do their best to close.
Dante Moore visits Notre Dame
There’s no question that the most important recruiting target in the class of 2023 is Detroit King five-star quarterback Dante Moore.
He’s the J.J. McCarthy, the Will Johnson, or Donovan Edwards of that class. Saying he’s a must-get doesn’t even begin to describe how crucial it is for the Wolverines. I mean how often is a five-star quarterback right down the road from Ann Arbor?
And man, if you get McCarthy and then Moore as potentially back-to-back starting quarterbacks, that’s how you dramatically change the fortunes of Michigan football.
Yet, the Wolverines have a lot of work to do and Moore was in South Bend earlier this week.
Ohio State has felt like the biggest threat to Michigan football. After all, Moore grew up as a Buckeye fan. But Notre Dame has been killing it on the recruiting trail too and can’t be discounted.
