Michigan Football staff even better after Jim Harbaugh’s latest hire
Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh added another coach to his staff, hiring Biff Poggi in an off-field role as associate head coach.
Once again, when you thought that Michigan football‘s staff was finalized, Jim Harbaugh made another addition to his coaching staff and it’s a familiar face in Biff Poggi.
Poggi, who will come to Michigan football from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, was once on Harbaugh’s staff as a special advisor and according to what Poggi told the Baltimore Sun, he will re-join the staff.
"“I’m going to Michigan with the idea that I’m going to be there until I finish coaching,” Poggi said. “I’ll be there, I hope, as long as Jim is there and wants me to stay there. … If he goes someplace else or doesn’t want me to stay, then I’d look at other opportunities.”"
According to the report, Poggi is going to be the Wolverines associate head coach and will focus primarily on mentoring the coaching staff, as well as working with the offensive line.
Since Poggi is going to work in an off-field role, it means that Michigan football can’t recruit players from St. Frances for two years. Currently, there are two players there on the roster: Blake Corum and Nikhai Hill-Green.
Poggi should still be an asset on the recruiting trail. He did a stellar job building St. Frances into a national power and did so much through recruiting talented players to the school. Poggi will be able to do that and should be an asset in the DMV for U-M, not to mention the value he will bring on the coaching side of things.
It’s another good move by Harbaugh, who overhauled his staff in a much-needed way. Hopefully, it will lead to success this season, but so far, you have to love all the moves and it’s hard to find a downside in this addition.
Commitment Monday?
Three-star linebacker/pass rusher Micah Pollard will announce his decision on Monday and with the Wolverines trending with crystal ball predictions, it looks like he will commit to Michigan.
Pollard is ranked 550th overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, however, he’s an exciting pass-rusher who also brings versatility.
Auburn appeared to be a very real threat for Pollard and actually had a number of expert picks for Pollard who is out of Jacksonville, Florida. Yet, Michigan has made a strong push and it appears it will result in the 16th commitment of its 2022 class on Monday.
