Michigan Football: More expert picks for 2022 defenders
The month of July could get really busy for Michigan football, which already has picked up three commitments already this month, and more could be on the way.
When five-star cornerback commitment, Will Johnson said that July was going to be a good month for Michigan football recruiting, he wasn’t joking and it didn’t take long for him to be proven right.
The Wolverines have landed three verbal pledges so far this month and on Wednesday, Michigan landed cornerback Myles Pollard, which was on the heels of commitments by Mario Eugenio and tight end Colston Loveland.
What’s great about all three commitments is that even though only Eugenio is listed as a four-star recruit by the 247 sports composite rankings, both Loveland and Pollard have already been given four-star ratings by at least one recruiting service.
Pollard is a four-star according to Rivals and frankly, it would be shocking if he wasn’t upgraded to a four-star by the composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-2 and he’s really improved, not to mention he has 40 scholarship offers.
Loveland is ranked as a three-star in the composite but 247 sports has the Idaho prospect as a four-star recruit, so people can quit complaining about three-stars. All three of these guys feel like four-star recruits (in the composite) when it’s all said and done.
The other good news is that it seems like Michigan football is far from finished this month.
Michigan football trends with 2022 recruits
Following the addition of Pollard to the 2022 class, the Wolverines picked up another crystal ball on Wednesday for Deuce Spurlock, a linebacker projected to U-M by Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider.
Spurlock is a three-star linebacker and he’s among a bunch of linebackers that could be trending Michigan’s direction. One of them is Micah Pollard, a three-star edge rusher/linebacker, who was trending to Auburn but was projected to Michigan football recently.
Jeremy Patton out of Texas is another name to watch at linebacker and just tweeted this week that he’s ready to make a commitment. Another 2022 recruit who posted on Twitter that he’s ready to commit is four-star safety D’Arco Perkins-McCallister.
Ranked 294th overall and as a four-star prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings, Perkins-McCallister would be a big get, and he was recently given a crystal ball to Michigan. Tennessee has the other crystal ball but that was from back in May.
Another defensive back to watch is three-star safety Ja’Kobi Albert. He’s ranked in the top 400 (389th) and after putting out a top three Wednesday that included Maryland and Auburn, a Maryland insider put in a projection to the Wolverines.
Dillon Tatum is still out there and is expected to make a decision before the start of his high school football season. In-state defensive tackle Deone Walker has also been trending to the Wolverines and there is hope about Walter Nolen.
Obviously, Michigan isn’t going to have room for all of these guys, but so far, July is living up to Johnson’s prediction.
